NEWLY ELECTED PMAN GOVERNOR, RIVERS STATE, COMRADE ABIYE EPHRAIM CALLS FOR DEVELOPMENT OF GRASSROOT MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT AS GROUP COMMEMORATES WORLD MUSIC DAY 2017
Ahead of Tomorrow's (Wednesday 21, June 2017)/World Music Day Celebration, Comrade Abiye Ephraim, Governor of Performing Musicians and Employers Association of Nigeria, PMAN Rivers State has called on Government and Corporate organizations and companies in Rivers state to take seriously the development of grassroot music and entertainment as they shape their policies and programmes.
Speaking to newsmen recently in Port Harcourt, The new PMAN boss said if the sector must transcend its present status, be protected, sustained and developed, the right policy environment must be created.
Abiye stressed that a focus on training, education, copyright, access to finance and international collaboration is required to ensure a viable music into the future
"Being a musician is a real career and musicians are entrepreneurs who require support just like any other SMEs. By supporting these entrepreneurs, there’s a huge opportunity not just for the Rivers State economy, but also socially, helping to create and maintain jobs nationwide and ensure that our towns and villages can be revived as vibrant cultural hubs.” the PMAN boss added.
He used the opportunity to call on all Musicians, entertainers and music lovers to join the state chapter of the Union in commemorating this years edition of World Music Day, promising that the event which is slated for Wednesday June 21 at BestBite G.R.A II, 5pm will be fulfilled.
