Federal government to encourage local manufacturin
– The federal government is to develop Nigeria’s economy by promoting local manufacturing
– Space science and technology in the country is also one of priorities
Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, the minister of science and technology, has annouced the government’s plans to encourage domestic manufacturing to boost nation’s economy at the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Forum in Abuja.
“We already have made in Nigeria car. We want to champion the idea of Nigerians looking inward and thinking Nigeria promoting made in Nigeria products to encourage our own local manufacturers.
It is very important. That is the only way that we can ever become a producer nation. We cannot continue to be a consumer nation alone, it wouldn’t help us.

We must help our own local producers. We must all start thinking of how we can do it. It shouldn’t be only the automobiles it should be on all products.”
The minister assured Nigerians that the government would ensure that vehicle manufacturers in the country maintained the minimum standard obtainable anywhere in the world.
On space science and technology
Speaking on the launching of a made-in-Nigeria satellite, earlier planned for 2018, the minister sais its strart might be postponed due to logistic issues.
“Space science and technology has direct impact on agriculture, environment, and health. Satellite can help you in education regarding distance learning also in defence.

Buhari's one year in office: PDP reacts
– The opposition party, PDP said the APC is still campaigning and not ready for governance
– The party said President Buhari has ruined the economy of Nigeria
A year ago, President Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in as the president of Nigeria.
He came into power following Nigerians decision to kick out the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the former president, Goodluck Jonathan.
Nigerians voted him with high expectations, hoping he would be the ‘Messiah’ to save Nigeria from collapse and lead her to greater heights.
One year down the line, some have already lost hope as things are at its worse at the moment. Though, some are still hopeful that change will come.
The opposition party, PDP has joined Nigerians to fault Buhari’s one year in office.

7 Reasons why FG should not ban tomato paste importation
– The scarcity of tomatoes in Nigeria has become a major issue
– Many have taken to the use of tomato paste as an alternative to fresh tomatoes
– The Association of Stakeholders in Edible Consumer Products in Nigeria has a message for the federal government
The Association of Stakeholders in Edible Consumer Products in Nigeria has advised the federal government not to ban the importation of tomato paste into the country.
In a statement signed by the chairman and secretary of the association; Francis Chukwudebelu and Greg Azubogu respectively, the group opined that it will be premature to ban the importation of the products.
The group stated that its long time projection is to ensure local production of as many consumer goods as possible thereby helping the country towards attaining self-sufficiency, create employment and boost the foreign exchange earnings.
The price of fresh tomatoes have shot up over a 100% due to scarcity of the commodity
The group however reeled out seven reasons why they think tomato paste should not be banned.
Read below:
1. Nigeria does not produce enough tomatoes to meet the demands of consumers of regular tomatoes and for the processing of tomato paste and concentrate. The scarcity of tomato currently being experienced and the cost of tomato pulp in the market today testifies to this assertion.
2. The specie of tomato seedling currently in Nigeria cannpt sustain the production of concentrate; not all tomato pulp can be used for paste and the species required are in short supply in Nigeria.
3. The current specie widely cultivated in Nigeria has about 90% water content and less than 8% content of material required for production of tomato paste; this is wasteful, not cost productive and competitive hence the need to cultivate the appropriate specie for sustainable production.
4. Where there is a ban and the demand outweighs supply, the prices will go up driving inflation with it.
5. Due to shortage of supply, there will be scarcity and to bridge that gap, smugglers will leave a field day
6. When there is smuggling, it grows the income of neighbouring countries to the detriment of our dear country.
7. The country ultimately loses income from custom duties and there is no regulation for smuggled goods and then the real substandard and poisonous market.
APC reveals Wike wasted Rivers funds on PDP convention
– APC says Wike wasted Rivers funds on the convention
– The opposition party in Rivers state demands public apology
– They say Sheriff should have known he was surrounded by betrayers
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state has accused Governor Nyesom Wike, of ‘burning’ a whooping N10 billion on the supposed convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held in the state at the weekend.
The opposition party in the state asked the governor, a member of the PDP, to publicly apologize for wasting the amount to organize a congress the party thinks is a coup against Ali Modu Sheriff, the sacked national chairman of the party.
Nyesom Wike of Rivers state with party members
Vanguard reports that the demand was made in a statement by the APC chairman in the state, Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, on Tuesday.
“The well-advertised PDP national convention in Port Harcourt has come and gone with its disastrous outcome. With the party now factionalised into three, the demise of the once greatest political party in Africa is not far from sight.

“As much as we sympathise with the endangered party of the torn umbrella, we hereby unreservedly condemn Chief Nyesom Wike for wasting a whopping sum of N10 billion belonging to the good people of Rivers state on this charade, especially in these lean times.
“This is not only condemnable but also abhorrent and unacceptable to the good people of Rivers state. We therefore request Chief Wike and his co-travellers to account for and return this huge sum to the Rivers state treasury as we cannot continue to fold our hands and watch him mortgage the future of Rivers state through his shocking financial recklessness,” the APC said.
The party further said: “Those PDP leaders who gathered in Port Harcourt to waste the scarce resources of Rivers state are as guilty as their host, Chief Wike.
“For crying out loud, they should have known that the so called national convention would be a charade in view of the court order barring any such exercise and with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stating from the very beginning that it would neither participate nor recognise the outcome of the purported convention.”
READ ALSO: Service chiefs storm Rivers, vow to rout militants on rampage
Sympathising with Sheriff, who was sacked by governors of the party and replaced with Ahmed Markafi, a former governor, the APC wondered how despite his financial experience, embattled party chairman could allow himself to be so disgraced by Wike.
The party reminded Sheriff that Wike and Goodluck Jonathan, a former president, betrayed Rotimi Amaechi and others and sent them away from the party thus destroying it.
“We wonder why Sheriff is crying that he was betrayed at Port Harcourt.
“If we may ask, does a leopard change its spots? If Wike could betray and ridicule Amaechi, who did everything humanly possible to make him Obio-Akpor local government chairman, his chief of staff and nominated him as a ministe, then we wonder why Sheriff or any other PDP leader should trust him not to betray them.”

– Governor Nyesom Wike has been accused of playing a role in a poll bribery scandal
-The Rivers state governor might soon be invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)
– Mr Samuel Johnson Okpoko has told the EFCC that he collected some outrageous sum from the governor
– The PDP scribe says the alleged crime for which he has been charged, was under the instruction of Wike
Sahara Reports informs that the detained Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Samuel Johnson Okpoko told the EFCC that he collected N700million poll bribery cash from a nee generation bank in Nigeria, on the instruction of Governor Wike.
Governor Nyesom Wike has been accused of being involved in a poll bribery scandal.
While Okpoko will soon be charged to court, the anti-graft agency might put the invitation of the governor on hold because of constitutional immunity.
The immunity, however, does not prevent the EFCC from investigating the allegation against the governor and keeping vital information for his trial after his tenure.
Sources in the EFCC reveal that Okpoko admitted that he collected the cash in two tranches at Trans Amadi branch of the bank in Port Harcourt.
READ ALSO: Cameron scandal: Rotimi Amaechi in trouble
The source said: “Operatives of the EFCC, have grilled the Rivers State Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mr. Samuel Johnson Okpoko, for collecting N700million from the controversial $115milloon lodged with a new generation bank, by the immediate past Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison- Madueke.
“Okpoko, who was the Rivers state’s PDP campaign coordinator in the 2015 Presidential Election, collected the sum of N700 million in two tranches of N600 million and N100 million respectively. Investigations by the EFCC revealed that Okpoko cashed N600 million on March 27 and N100 million on March 31, 2015.
“Explaining how he became involved, Okpoko said he was instructed by the then PDP governorship candidate, Nyesom Wike to go to the Bank to cash some money ther e.”
The source quoted Okpoko as saying: “I was with my governor in his house sometimes 27th day of March 2015, when he got a call and Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike after the phone call told me that the call was from the bank and they have some money for him.”
But Special Assistant to Governor Wike on electronic media Mr. Simeon Nwakaudu said:
“We are not aware of what you talked about in your test message.”
He said Okpoko was already in the custody of the EFCC and would be charged to court soon.
Responding to a question, the source said: “Since the governor enjoys immunity by virtue of Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution, we cannot invite Nyesom Wike now for interrogation on the allegation by Okpoko.
“This, however, does not prevent the EFCC from probing issues connected with the payment of the N700million and asking for a refund from the beneficiaries.”

Section 308 of the Constitution reads in part: “Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in this Constitution but subject to subsection 2 of this section- (a) no civil or criminal proceedings shall be instituted or continued against a person to whom this section applies during his period of office; (b) a person to whom this section applies shall not be arrested or imprisoned during that period either on pursuance of the process of any court or otherwise; and (c ) no process of any court requiring or compelling the appearance of a person to whom this section applies, shall be applied for or issued.”
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers of being responsible for the spate of killings in the state.
The APC claimed the killings were politically motivated and called on security agencies to look into them. Vanguard reports that this came after Governor Wike was quoted as saying the Peoples Democratic Party was poised to take over power in 2019.
Mai Mala Buni who is the national secretary of the APC said in Abuja on Wednesday, May 11 that Wike’s comment was to shift attention from the atrocities he was committing in the state.
Buni said: “The national secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in reacting to the idle 2019 postulations of the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, caution security agencies and Nigerians not to be hoodwinked by this latest ploy to deflect attention from the continued and increased spate of mass killings and violence in the

NLC walk out on FG, vow to go ahead with strike
– NLC has vowed to go ahead with nationwide strike
which starts today, May 18
– NLC said it was not aware of the court order stopping
the strike
– FG says it will apply a no work, no pay policy
The labour unions are threatening to go ahead with
their planned strike action
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has vowed to go
ahead with its scheduled nationwide strike on today,
May 18 after walking out of the meeting held with the
representatives of the Federal Government.
NLC said they were angered by the decision of the
Federal Government to proceed to court , despite
existing negotiation which was at the instance of the
government.
The action of the NLC followed the failure of the parties
to resolve the dispute over the increase of the pump
price of petroleum by the Federal Government from
N86.50 to N145 per litre.
Recall that over the weekend, organised labour and the
civil society gave the Federal Government till midnight
on Tuesday to reverse the increase or face an indefinite
national strike.
While the NLC said it was not aware of the court order
stopping the strike, the Trade Union Congress flayed the
Federal Government for obtaining it.
“I am not aware of any court injunction. As far as I am
concerned, I am not aware of any court injunction,” the
general secretary of the NLC, Dr Peter Ozo-Eson, told
Punch newspaper.
On its part, the President of the TUC, Mr Bala Kaigama
said: “That is what we are going to the meeting to find
out. Who instituted that? So, we would find out if it is
going to stop our negotiations. They are doing it
through panic. I think they are scared. We have not
been served. Can you talk of what you have not seen?”
he asked.
The NIC in its ruling on Tuesday, May 17 stopped the
TUC and the NLC from embarking on their planned
strike scheduled to start on Wednesday.
But Speaking to newsmen after the meeting with labour
leaders, secretary to the government of the federation,
Mr Babachir Lawal said: “The National Industrial Court
has given an injunction that no strike by NLC and TUC
should hold tomorrow (Wednesday). It is therefore clear
that anyone embarking on strike tomorrow (Wednesday)
is doing so illegally and government is assuring all
Nigerians to come out and do their jobs tomorrow
(Wednesday).

TUC over planned national strike
“It the duty of government to provide security for her
citizens and anyone who tries to coerce any worker to
do their bidding would be made to face the law of the
land. We had full cooperation with the Trade Union
Congress of Nigeria and they said they are not going on
strike. For them, it is a complete return to work
tomorrow (Wednesday). It is not the same with the NLC
however. They have two factions, one agreed
completely with the position of the TUC.”
Meanwhile, the two major unions in Nigeria’s oil and
gas sector endorsed the price modulation mechanism
adopted by the Federal Government to arrive at the new
N145 per litre pump price for petrol.
FG applies no work, no pay policy
With NLC’s stand on the strike, the SGF in a statement
directed all ministers, permanent secretaries and heads
of government agencies to invoke the provision of rule
against errant workers.
“This notice is regrettably given in spite of an order by
the industrial court against the strike. Government,
therefore, calls upon and advises all workers to respect
the laws of the land and to desist from participating in
an illegal action.
“Government undertakes to guarantee the safety of
workers and their workplaces, and expects that normal
work will continue in the interest of the nation.
Accordingly, security agencies have been directed to
ensure unimpeded access to offices, workplaces and
markets.
“Accordingly, all ministers, permanent secretaries and
heads of government agencies are hereby directed to
invoke the provision of ‘no work no pay’ in respect of
any staff member who absents himself or herself from
work to join the strike.”
“Attendance registers are required to be opened in all
Ministries, Departments and Agencies.”

Hundreds of Nigerians rehearse tomorrow's anti-fuel hike protest
Following the recent fuel subsidy removal and
subsequent rise in petrol price announced by the federal
government last week, the activists of Joint Action
Front (JAF) conducted a rehearsal for an anti-fuel hike
protest in Yaba area, Lagos state.
The protest organised by a pro-labour unions is
scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, May 18. The JAF
was among first set of groups to step out against the
policy of deregulation and increase in prices of Premium
Motor Spirit (PMS).
FG bows to NLC pressure, sets up committee to review fuel price
FG bows to NLC pressure, sets up
committee to review fuel price
– Reports say new development will also put minimum
wage into consideration
– NLC states, however, that it does not affect proposed
industrial action
– Abuja faction set to commence protests by 8am
The federal government may have bowed to pressure
from the Nigeria Labour Union (NLC) as it has agreed to
review the pump price of petrol.
The Cable reports that this was resolution after a two-
day meeting with the labour leaders which ended on
Tuesday night.
Reports say the federal government has now set up a
new committee to review the new pump price of petrol
and the national minimum wage.
It was gathered also, that this committee will work with
the Joe Ajaero-led faction of the NLC with a view to
adjusting the current N18,000 minimum wage.
This new development does not in anyway stop the
proposed industrial action by the NLC, though, as
the Ayuba Wabba-led faction has vowed to go ahead
with the proposed strike in spite of the court injunction
against them.
The protest is expected to kick off at about 8am on
Wednesday in Abuja at the union’s secretariat.
The union’s head of information, Benson Upah, also
categorically told The Cable that: “NLC’s position has
not shifted. The strike will go on tomorrow.
“Quote me the strike will go on tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties
(CNPP) has asked Nigerians masses and civil to ignore
the labour unions and protest against the increment of
pump price of petrol.
The CNPP in a statement issued on Tuesday, which was
jointly signed by its national chairman, Alhaji Balarabe
Musa and the secretary general, Chief Willy Ezugwu,
also accused both the federal government and the
labour unions of insincerity in the matter.
The statement made available to NAIJ.com reads: “We
are taken aback that the federal government could
hurriedly obtain a judgment from the Industrial Court,
with readiness to enforce same overnight while the
government is yet to obey many other court orders
against it.
“For instance, the PRP was deregistered as a political
party by the Indepedent National Electoral commission
(INEC) and a court of competent jurisdiction ordered its
re-registration but the INEC is yet to obey the order.
“Today, the federal government selects which court
judgment to obey and the ones against it are
discountenanced.

Your Land Or Your Blood.
By Adamu Mohammed.
Ever since President Muhammadu Buhari took over the mantle of leadership of this great country Nigeria, we(Hausa-Fulanis) have come under severe media attack from enemies of progress. Just because they are educated than us, they stereotype us with negativity. Just because they own and control the media, they use the media against us.
But let me make something clear to you stupid fellows hating us, whether you love us or hate us, it doesn't change anything. We are who we are and we will continue to remain like that. We hate you even more and we can never love you because you are all infidels. I pity those of you who keep deluding yourselves that we can love and trust you simply because you worked against your people to our own advantage, never!
I heard that the stupid Governor of Oyo State, Ajimobi said that they won't accept the proposed Grazing Bill. But my message to the filthy Yoruba pig is that, if you don't want to give us your cursed land, we will rear our cattle not only on your farmlands but in your churches. And if you try to stop us, we would killed your chicken hearted men like rabbits then turn your mothers, wives, sisters and daughters to our sex slaves like we have always done.
It is either you give the whole of South to us to use as grazing reserve or we soak it with your blood. And what you would do like you always do is noise on Facebook and Twitter. you cannot be united against us because there would always be the likes of Tinubu, Amaechi and Okorocha in your midst who will divide you for selfishness and love of money. Such treacherous characters can't survive in our midst because we burn them and their families.
I so much detest Southern Christians because they are the problem of this country. If I have my way, there won't be any functional church in this country, especially in the North. That's why I am so much happy with Governor El-rufai who is living up to the expectations of Allah in Kaduna State. We are not really pleased with President Muhammadu Buhari who is too slow to implement everything we asked him to implement in this country for us, he has not even done 20% of the Northern/Islam agenda, what he is waiting for I don't know.
We will make life unbearable for Igbos like they are in Hell, and yet we won't let them have their useless Biafra because the whole of South is a conquered territory. We can never see Yorubas as allies no matter how hard they try to please or serve us because they are born traitors and infidels. Those slaves in the Middle Belt would continue to be willing tools in our hands, and the day they attempt to raise their heads, we will cut off their heads like weeds. I lack words to tell the inconsequential and always crying Niger Delta because what we are waiting for is for President Buhari to declare state of emergency in Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta, then we will show them how to use power.
We are at war with you people but we won't allow the country to breakup because, natural resources found in any part of the country is our heritage and birth right. We will continue killing you in large numbers until you are truly submissive to us as your slave masters. We won't stop killing you until we fully takeover your land as a conquered territory. This is not the time to mince words, this is not the time to sugarcoat things, and this is not the time to be economical with the truth, this is nothing but the truth, ignore it at your own peril.
[5/5, 9:16 PM] ‪+234 802 948 1691‬: GRAZING RESERVE BILL.
Please continue to pass this leaked information until every Yoruba, Igbo, all tribes and all Christian parts of Nigeria gets alerted.
This was planned many years by Fulanis as a strategic way to Islamization of Nigeria.
That was why Buhari continued running for presidency even at his old age because they knew he is the most possible mean to achieve their goal.
In 1804 - 1808. Fulanis came in from Guinea to the Northern part of Nigeria, led by Usman Dan fodio .He lead in jihad against the Hausa kingdoms of the northern Nigeria. The forces of Usman dan Fodio slowly took over more and more of the Hausa kingdoms through war. By 1810, Fulanis had already conquered all hausas.
They formed boko haram sect solely for the process, waiting for Buhari or any of their Fulani brother to come in power but Unfortunately, Goodluck Jonathan came into power and they became annoyed.
They started their violence to distract him and whether it was Yoruba or Igbo that was on the seat during GEJ'S regime. The same thing could've still happened about Boko haram.
Now their dream has been achieved having their brother on top.
Here is their plan.
They started herdsmen war believing that they have the chance to control all parts of the country since they are in power and forces.
If GRAZING RESERVE BILL is passed and achieved, It means that Fulanis will have a place mapped out for them in all 36 states of Nigeria.
The next thing is that, they will start bringing in their wives and children to increase their population.
With time, they will have their Emir installed in every 36 states which will eventually take part in every leadership community gatherings.
They will eat into every community like worms and the place given to them can never be taken away from them again since it has been passed.
Their sect will be ready to strike in every state and community with no hiding place for anyone since they have known every corners of our community.
It is then that we will beg them to stop killing us for we are ready to become Muslims in order to live.
This is the only time we have to reject this because tomorrow might be late for us to act.

employing in his famous fight against corruption
– The popular cleric advises Buhari to work with every
region of the country in order to bring unity
– He says rich people are now afraid to spend money
due to intimidation and that leaves the poor people
poorer
Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has criticised President
Muhammadu Buhari for the way he is ripping Nigeria
apart and the method he is employing in fighting
corruption.
In an interview with Sahara Reporters, Gumi accused
President Buhari of not making the unity of Nigeria a
priority and that this has given birth to agitation by
different regions.
He said: “The government should have formed a
Government of National Unity right from the beginning.
For example, tell the South-East to bring whoever they
trust to represent them in the government. The South-
West brought Prof. Yemi Osinbajo as running mate; he
was not the choice of Buhari.
READ ALSO: Gumi advises Buhari to reverse tough
economic policies
“The same way that you did with South-West do with
the South- South and South-East. This is what I mean
by Government of National Unity because if the
militants believe that they are represented well in the
government, they will allow the oil to flow.
“If the crude oil flows, our refineries will work. The
President needs to listen; he can’t afford to be adamant
anymore. He should listen to knowledgeable individuals
and not sycophants who supported him. Nigeria is for
everybody. It is not for any single political party or the
President.”
On President Buhari’s order that Niger Delta militant
bombing pipelines be crushed, Gumi said it was not the
best way to deal with the situation.
“How can they deal with the militants in the first place,
when they are holding the nation’s umbilical cord? You
are fighting Boko Haram in the North, and you want to
fight the militants in the creeks. You don’t fight on two
fronts at the same time. That was one of the reasons
why Adolf Hitler failed in the Second World War. The
government should sit down with them and ask them
the reasons for their agitation.
“Don’t forget; they were embittered that their man
Goodluck Jonathan was defeated. Their argument now
is, ‘if you hate our man, then leave our oil.’ No section
of the country has the solution of Nigeria’s problem.
“So, everybody should be brought on board. Even if the
South-South brings Government Tompolo as their man,
we should accept him, so long as they trust him; so that
we will have stability.
“A military solution is not the best option in this
circumstance. Former President Umaru Yar’adua could
swallow his pride as president and negotiate with the
militants. Jonathan also did it. But a military man
cannot do it because it will hurt his ego. But if he
doesn’t do it, he will kill the nation.”
Sheikh Gumi said Buhari was treading a precarious
path as president because there is a tussle between the
rich and the poor and his fight against corruption
needed a new dimension. He insisted diplomacy is the
right way to handle corruption so rich people would
pump money into the country.
“Buhari’s coming into politics has accentuated the
class struggle in Nigeria. The antagonism between the
rich and poor can sometimes be more dangerous that
religious differences. I saw this class struggle coming
because the masses will always rush to Buhari because
they believe that he will bring justice and food on the
table for them. They want him to emasculate the rich for
them; he either does it, or they will categorise him as a
failure.
READ ALSO: Chibok girls show Shekau could be better
than Buhari
“So, once you put a leader in that kind of situation, then
you are already introducing a class struggle into the
already compounded problem. In addition to our tribal
problems, our religious differences, and the North/South
divide, there is now a class problem because the
talakawa just want to see the rich imprisoned. And if
they are tasking the president to do that, and if he does
not do it he is a failure, then he will definitely fail
because he cannot do it.
“So, the kind of leader that we needed at that time was
one who will pacify the rich and still have the
confidence of the poor. By so doing, the rich will help in
building the economy by setting up companies that will
generate employment.
“That is why the Prophet (SAW) said that you can get
with leniency what you can never get by force. He said
that when leniency enters anything, it decorates it. And
strictness, violence blemishes and destroys the beauty
of whatever they enter.
“So, what you get with diplomacy, you cannot get with
violence. If you want to deal with corruption in Nigeria,
you have to deal with it in a diplomatic way. No one
should be afraid of returning the money that they have
looted. But when the poor is always rating your
administration by the number of people you have
caught, then you are in trouble because you cannot
catch the big ones.
“Because if you do so, you will destroy your government
and if you don’t catch them, the poor will say that you
have changed. The president is even fighting the war on
corruption the wrong way. When you fight corruption, it
will naturally fight back. Corruption has become an
international institution. You will hear foreign leaders
condemning corruption, but they are engaging in it
because their countries benefit from it.
READ ALSO: Prominent cleric reveals reasons of
Nigeria’s problems
“So, the President needs to tread carefully in fighting
corruption with the way things are now because it will
frighten the upper class of the society. It will put them
on pause, and this is not healthy for a developing
economy like our own.
“You need the rich to infuse money into the system and
fund projects. For example, I went to a fundraiser for an
Islamic school. Big men came, but not a single one
donated a Kobo, not even a pledge because they may be
asked where they got the money from.
“So, there is fright, and this is hurtful to the economy.
The war on corruption should purely be a law and order
issue. Right now, if EFCC invites someone, the next day
it is in the newspapers. “The damage this kind of thing
causes to people’s reputation is very severe, especially
if they are found to be innocent.”

Fuel subsidy removal: Nigerians berate Buhari, extol Jonathan
Following the removal of fuel subsidy by the Nigerian
government, Nigerians are now to buy fuel at an
outrageous price of N145.
Nigerians would have to buy fuel at N145 a litre,
following the removal of fuel subsidy.
Until the removal which was made on Wednesday, May
11, the official price of petrol was N87 per litre although
consumers have been paying as much as N200 for fuel
due to scarcity.
Nigerians have taken to social media, raising their
voices in anger against the new development . For many,
it is a big slap on their faces. They claim that they have
been ripped-off, for them, this was not the change they
were promised.
Below are comments made by Nigerians on social
media, in reaction to the new pump price.
Jerry Ike Udeh said: “Where is stupid Tam David West that
said fuel pump price will be 40naira if Buhari win election, I
am just sorry for the poor masses.”
According to Ofonime Sam Uwem, Goodluck meant well
for this country (Nigeria). “If Buhari can concede to the
removal of fuel subsidy which he claimed he knew nothing
about and doesn’t know who was subsidizing who… then I
think he is very smart as well for being able to deceive his
gullible followers that subsidy was fraud,” Ofonime
opined.

increment, says “He’s insensitive to Nigerians plight”
Emem Emmanuel said: “Naija how una see am. I hope the
45% gullible people in in this country will wake up now and
stop calling sai baba in their sleep. Imagine even fuel is
unaffordable now even when there’s no money to buy it.
God help Nigeria.”
“I dnt know the kind of government we have this time
around, selling fuel N145 Will it solve the Nigerian
problem, how much re u paying workers? How much is
minimum wage? There is no atom of reasoning,” Festus
Ikwuka lamented.
Patrick Offor was of the opinion that “All Buhari
supporters will ever be comfortable with it. They will say
it’s a measure to uplift the economy of the country. But
they took to the streets when GEJ did the same. I hope
things don’t get tougher.”
For Chidosky Chidi, voting for APC was his biggest
mistake, one which he says he now regrets.
Obinna Chukwu advised that “Buhari should humble
himself and ask Jonathan how he managed to keep dollar
at 180 against the naira, how he managed to improve the
electricity supply, how he managed to stabilise fuel price
without scarcity, how he managed to curb inflation among
others.”
“I am sure Jonathan as a patriotic citizen will be willing to
assist him,” Chidi concluded.
Chima Chukwujekwu lamented saying: “In this economic
hardship, Mr President I thought u said that you feel the
pain of the masses and now you are creating more pains, I
weep for my nation.”

removed – Osinbajo
Taking a twist to the situation, Temitope Abiodun said:
“This is the best time for the NLC to go on strike to protest,
should Buhari refuses to accede to the N56k minimum
wage proposal!”
Olakunle Ogundare said he is “Waiting for what occupy
Nigeria will say? Yea NLC time for show lets here your side
just the same way you did in 2012. Failure to hear from
you would tell how hypocritical NLC and associate were in
2012.”
What is your take on the highly controversial issue,
share your thoughts in our comment section.
Breaking! Fuel subsidy removed; new price of fuel revealed
The federal government of Nigeria has removed subsidy
on fuel and it will now start to sell for N145 per litre.
This removal was made on Wednesday, May 11.
Until the removal, the official price of petrol was N87
per litre although consumers have been paying as much
as N200 for fuel due to scarcity.
Ibe Kachikwu and President Muhammadu Buhari
The removal in fuel subsidy has been a lingering issue
since President Muhammadu Buhari took over power.
The minister of state for petroleum product, Dr
Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu had said that the citizens were
not benefitting from the subsidy which made it
necessary to be removed.
An official in the petroleum industry had earlier said the
federal government would deregulate the downstream
sector of the Nigerian petroleum industry so as to put
an end to scarcity.
The petroleum minister in a statement said the decision
was taken based on the current challenges and that
Nigerians have been paying exorbitant prices for fuel.
We have just finished a meeting of various stakeholders
presided over by His Excellency, the Vice President of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The meeting had in attendance the Leadership of the
Senate, House of Representatives, Governors Forum, and
Labour Unions (NLC, TUC, NUPENG, and PENGASSAN).
class=”text_exposed_show”>
The meeting reviewed:
“The current fuel scarcity and supply difficulties in the
country.
“The exorbitant prices being paid by Nigerians for the
product. These prices range on the average from N150 to
N250 per litre currently.
“The meeting also noted that the main reason for the
current problem is the inability of importers of petroleum
products to source foreign exchange at the official rate due
to the massive decline of foreign exchange earnings of the
federal government. As a result, private marketers have
been unable to meet their approximate 50% portion of total
national supply of PMS.
Following a detailed presentation by the Honorable Minister
of State for Petroleum Resources, it has now become
obvious that the only option and course of action now open
to the government is to take the following decisions:
“In order to increase and stabilise the supply of the product,
any Nigerian entity is now free to import the product,
subject to existing quality specifications and other
guidelines issued by Regulatory Agencies.
” All Oil Marketers will be allowed to import PMS on the
basis of FOREX procured from secondary sources and
accordingly PPPRA template will reflect this in the pricing
of the product.
“Pursuant to this, PPPRA has informed me that it will be
announcing a new price band effective today, 11th May,
2016 and that the new price for PMS will not be above
N145 per litre.
“We expect that this new policy will lead to improved supply
and competition and eventually drive down pump prices, as
we have experienced with diesel. In addition, this will also
lead to increased product availability and encourage
investments in refineries and other parts of the downstream
sector. It will also prevent diversion of petroleum products
and set a stable environment for the downstream sector in
Nigeria.
“We share the pains of Nigerians but, as we have
constantly said, the inherited difficulties of the past and the
challenges of the current times imply that we must take
difficult decisions on these sorts of critical national issues.
Along with this decision, the federal government has in the
2016 budget made an unprecedented social protection
provision to cushion the current challenges.
“We believe in the long term, that improved supply and
competition will drive down prices.
“The DPR and PPPRA have been mandated to ensure strict
regulatory compliance including dealing decisively with
anyone involved in hoarding petroleum products.”
The vice president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo hinted
earlier on Wednesday that Nigeria had reached a point
where tough decisions had to be taken.
He said: “No matter how we slice it, we are in economic
times that are challenging, but they provide us with
some of the best opportunities for making a real
difference in our economic life.
“I think that we are at a point that a lot has been said about
subsidies and what to do with subsidies. I think we are at a
point where we must make many difficult decisions and
make very tough choices.
“But I think the Nigerian people are prepared for all what is
required and all it would take to make a real difference. “In
no way can a country make the kind of progress we expect
it to make without being able to ensure that in public life
our finance system is transparent and would ensure that
there is accountability.”

I didn't know where the money came from - Fani-Kayode
– Ex-minister Femi-Fani Kayode has spoken about the
corruption charged against him
– The major public figures he thought the money given
to him by ex-president Jonathan came from private
donors
– Fani-Kayode, who was previously charged with
money laundering in 2008, has denied the charges
placed against him
The former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has
said that he thought the money allocated to him by the
former president of Nigeria Goodluck Jonathan to be
used for the failed 2015 campaign came from private
donors.
Fani-Kayode made the shocking and revealing
disclosure while speaking to Punch following his
interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) earlier today.
Fani-Kayode was previously accused and then acquitted
of money laundering charges in 2008
“I served as the director of publicity of the Jonathan
campaign organisation and I was told to set up an account
for the directorate, which I did,” Fani-Kayode said.
“I never received money from the CBN but like all the other
directors, we received money from the director of finance.”
“I was assured that the funds were not public funds but
were sourced from private individuals. I never knowingly
spent government money all through.

campaign funds
“The money was spent specifically on the campaigns. The
accounts were audited and we were commended by the
President,” he added.
The EFCC is investigating the source of funds used for
ex-president Jonathan’s campaign due to allegations
that the former petroleum minister, Diezani Alison-
Madueke, bribed officials of the Independent National
Electoral Commission (INEC) prior to the 2015 elections.
Meanwhile, an EFCC source also said that Fani-Kayode
would be expected to return the money he collected if he
is found guilty.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly landed in
the United Kingdom ahead of the anti-corruption
summit alongside several other Heads of State.
Pictures obtained by Sahara Reporters showed

the negative comments made by the British prime

Earlier in the day, a video footage surfaced online of the
British PM calling Nigeria a ‘fantastically corrupt’
country, when he was speaking with the Queen about
Nigeria and Afghanistan.
Although the presidency has since condemned the
statement by Cameron, describing it as embarrassing,
especially considering President Buhari’s fight against
corruption, the Nigerian leader still arrived the European

spokesman, Osita Okechukwu asked the NDA to give
President Muhammadu Buhari time to address their
demands, Vanguard reports.

Okechukwu asked the group to put into consideration
the laudable projects the current administration led by
Buhari had lined up for the Niger Delta and allow the
president some time to execute them.
The group which claimed responsibility for the recent
bombings of oil facilities among other demands, asked
the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi to
apologise to the Ijaw and the entire Niger Delta people
for his “careless and reckless statement about the siting
of the university.”
The group also demanded that the ownership of oil
blocks must reflect 60 per cent for the oil-producing
people and 40 per cent for others.
The south east APC asked the avengers to have a re-
think and save the Niger Delta from ruins.
The statement read: “ No sane Nigerian will pray for the
recurrence of ugly incidents like the Odi, 1999; Zaki Ibiam,
2000 and Gbaramatu, 2009 or the unwarranted ugly
scenario which the Niger Delta Avengers are consciously
simulating.
“It is our candid view that the bombing of Forcados
pipeline, Bonga oil field, Chevron trunk lines and other oil
and gas installations will not facilitate the implementation
of 2014 National Conference Report.”

The party added that if the NDA were unhappy with the
situation of things in the Niger Delta region, they should
blame former president, Goodluck Jonathan, who during
his administration for five years failed to address the
problems in the area such as clean-up the Niger Delta,
complete East-West road and review oil blocs’
allocation.
However, the Ijaw Youth Council has condemned the
destruction of oil facilities by the avengers because
Tompolo denounced the group. The IYC said they had
no justification for their action, adding that Tompolo did
the proper thing by coming out to inform the entire
world that he was not part of the Niger Delta Avengers

death of your son, how has life been with you?
Sikiratu Yekini: Like I have always been saying, survival
has been difficult for me since I lost my son because he
was the pillar the whole family relaxed on. Tafzent Sports: Have you received any help from
anybody since the death of your son?
Sikiratu Yekini: The only help I got since the death of
my son was the money the Osun State government gave
me during the burial of Rashidi, and the money was
even shared in the family, and asides that no one else
has looked into my side.
Tafzent Sports: What about the Kwara State
government where your son was born?
Sikiratu Yekini: They have done nothing except for their
fake promises. There was a time when we were even
looking for how to get a job for Akeem Yekini who is a
younger brother to Rashidi, but up till now, nothing has
been done.

survive?
Sikiratu Yekini: He’s into labouring work since there’s
nobody to help, and that is better than stealing.
Tafzent Sports: Have you for once received help, visit
or call from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) since
the death of your son?
Sikiratu Yekini: No one has ever called me from them,
they don’t even know where I live not to talk of them
paying me a visit, but I’m sure if they want to help, they
would surely find me.
Tafzent Sports: Mama is it true that you sells bread,
water, drinks and other things for you to survive
Sikiratu Yekini: Yes, that’s what I do for now as I
cannot continue to be begging from hands to
mouth. Akeem Yekini who’s the younger brother to
Rashidi also extends his hands to me anytime he comes
back from his labouring work.

where you are living, did you put some part for rent?
Madam Yekini in front of her fridge with drinks
Sikiratu Yekini: Yes, my son built this house for me
when I came back from Minna and me, Akeem and his
children are living upstairs. We put four rooms for rent
when it became hard for us to eat, and even till now the
tenants are still begging us claiming that the Kwara
State local government has not paid them for 6 months.
Tafzent Sports: What is the nature of your health, are
you receiving treatment in the hospital?
Sikiratu Yekini: I am not healthy at all, and I’m just
forcing myself to do so many things I do since there’s
nobody to help.
Tafzent Sports: What do you want Mama?
Sikiratu Yekini: My son served this country, and I want
Nigerians to help me because it has not been easy for
me since the death of Rashidi. I don’t want a situation
where some people would now be bringing cows after
my death whereas none of them can afford to give me
fish now that I’m alive.

some activities of several groups preaching hatred,
disunity and divisive tendencies among the populace for
selfish gains.

such individuals or groups calling for the country’s
break-up, narrating that over two million people died

hardship in the country, President Buhari urged

of pipelines was not over.

coordinator of the presidential amnesty programme, if
he wants to be in control of the “current oil war”.
