Give Buhari time - APC begs Niger Delta avengers

– A new militant group known as the Niger Delta
Avengers have been wrecking havoc in the country,
blowing up oil facilities
– The group asked President Buhari to meet certain
demands else it would continue bombing oil facilities
– The APC in the south east has begged the militants
to give the president time to address their demands
– The party also asked the avengers to blame Goodluck
Jonathan for the bad situation of things in the Niger
Delta region
The south east caucus of the All Progressives Congress
(APC) has begged militants under the aegis of the new
group, the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) to allow peace
reign in the interest of the nation.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 9, by the party’s
spokesman, Osita Okechukwu asked the NDA to give
President Muhammadu Buhari time to address their
demands, Vanguard reports.

Okechukwu asked the group to put into consideration
the laudable projects the current administration led by
Buhari had lined up for the Niger Delta and allow the
president some time to execute them.
The group which claimed responsibility for the recent
bombings of oil facilities among other demands, asked
the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi to
apologise to the Ijaw and the entire Niger Delta people
for his “careless and reckless statement about the siting
of the university.”
The group also demanded that the ownership of oil
blocks must reflect 60 per cent for the oil-producing
people and 40 per cent for others.
The south east APC asked the avengers to have a re-
think and save the Niger Delta from ruins.
The statement read: “ No sane Nigerian will pray for the
recurrence of ugly incidents like the Odi, 1999; Zaki Ibiam,
2000 and Gbaramatu, 2009 or the unwarranted ugly
scenario which the Niger Delta Avengers are consciously
simulating.
“It is our candid view that the bombing of Forcados
pipeline, Bonga oil field, Chevron trunk lines and other oil
and gas installations will not facilitate the implementation
of 2014 National Conference Report.”

The party added that if the NDA were unhappy with the
situation of things in the Niger Delta region, they should
blame former president, Goodluck Jonathan, who during
his administration for five years failed to address the
problems in the area such as clean-up the Niger Delta,
complete East-West road and review oil blocs’
allocation.
However, the Ijaw Youth Council has condemned the
destruction of oil facilities by the avengers because
Tompolo denounced the group. The IYC said they had
no justification for their action, adding that Tompolo did
the proper thing by coming out to inform the entire
world that he was not part of the Niger Delta Avengers
