PDP commences court process against Amaechi, army chiefs to prison

– Minister of transportation, Chibuike Amaechi
describes as frivolous, ridiculous and laughable the
court action by PDP seeking to commit him to prison
– Queries why PDP instituted the court action against
him when he lacks the powers to deploy soldiers
– Promises to meet the party in court
For deploying soldiers during the March 19 Rivers rerun
elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers
has asked a High Court sitting in Port Harcourt to
commit the minister of transportation, Chibuike
Amaechi, the chief of defence staff, General Abayomi
Olonishakin, and the chief of army staff, Lt.-Gen Tukur
Buratai to prison.
According to This Day, the party also requested that the
commander of the 2 army brigade, Port Harcourt,
Brigadier General Stephenson Olabanji, the Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC), and Rivers state
resident electoral commissioner (REC), Mr Aniedi
Ikoiwak be jailed.

The court action was instituted by the Rivers state PDP
chairman Felix Obuah in a motion of notice filed by their
solicitor, Kingsley Chuku, before the state High Court
registry on March 22.
Recall that Justice George Omereji of High Court on
March 16 granted an interim injunction restraining the
federal government  from deploying soldiers during the
rerun elections following a court process by the PDP.
However, soldiers were massively deployed and seen all
over the state, monitoring the conduct of the legislative
rerun elections which necessitated the recent court
action by the PDP.
The presiding judge, Justice Omereji, has adjourned
further hearing on the matter till April 14.
Reacting to the development, Amaechi, described the
move by the PDP as “ frivolous, ridiculous and laughable”,
promising to meet the party in court.
The minister of transportation in a statement by his
media office yesterday, March 28, said he was
unaware of the matter in court, pointing out that he had
not been served the processes.
Amaechi however queried why the PDP joined him in the
court matter when he does not have the powers as a
Minister of Transportation to deploy soldiers.
He asked: “Who has the powers to deploy soldiers
according to our constitution and laws? Does Amaechi, the
Minister of Transportation, have powers to deploy soldiers
anywhere in the country?

“If Amaechi as Minister of Transportation does not deploy
soldiers, why is he being dragged into the matter? And is
the court saying that soldiers can’t be deployed for the
safety and protection of lives and property when there is a
clear need to do so?
“However, like I said earlier, we will meet them in court.”
Meanwhile, Some aggrieved Anambra state House of
Representatives members- elect have written an open
letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to Leadership, the reps-elect want the
president to wade into the dispute surrounding the
legitimacy of those currently serving as federal
lawmakers from the state.
In the letter dated March 29, 2016, the lawmakers;
Emmanuel Nweke, Benedict Obaze, Anthony Offiah,
Charles Odedo, Princess Ifeyinwa Anazonw, Mrs
Uchenna Obi, Dr Ejike Nwene and Julius Oforma are
accusing Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the chairman of
Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) of
being partisan in the matter.

One year of Buhari's election victory has Nigeria Change

It is one year since President Muhammadu
Buhari won the 2015 presidential poll. Buhari came to the
power raising public expectations on his declared
commitment to fighting corruption, ending the Boko Haram
insurgency and fixing the economy.
Jibrin Ibrahim, a Nigerian political scientist and activist,
examines what has changed since last year presidential
election.
The election as a narrative of heroes
It’s exactly one year today since the March 28 2015
presidential election. In my column of 30th March 2015,
I had described the election as a narrative of heroes. I
started my list of heroes with the communities attacked
by insurgents to stop them from participating in the
electoral process. Most of them came out and voted
risking their lives to operationalize Nigerian democracy.
Nigerians love democracy so much that not even
terrorists could deter them from exercising their
franchise.
The Nigerian voters in general are also heroes. They
came out in their droves to vote. The voters endured
severe difficulties during the elections as a result of
several operational and logistical lapses by the
Independent National Electoral Commission. Voting
commenced late in many parts of the country. In many
places voting continued late into the night and in some
cases through to the morning. In these instances,
voters remained calm, patient and orderly. They
demonstrated a great sense of civic consciousness,
which we should continue to salute.
READ ALSO: Arms scam: When Jonathan can be probed
– Buhari’s panel reveals
Another hero revealed by the elections was INEC and its
leadership under Professor Attahiru Jega who planned
for and delivered elections that were relatively free and
fair. Their use of the card reader was a masterstroke.
The card reader, this simple machine that has the
capacity to recognize and count real human voters was
another real hero. It caused a real panic among circles
that are used to rigging elections. The panic was
justified; the card reader was really an anti-rigging
devise and has come to stay in future elections in spite
of some recent incomprehensible court judgements.
The value gained by these heroes
One year later, we can pose the question of the value
gained by these heroes of Nigerian democracy.
Following Buhari’s inauguration as president on 29th,
May the expectation was that he would hit the ground
running, immediately appoint his ministerial team and
heads of agencies and embark on immediate
implementation of his elaborate governance agenda,
which he had successfully sold to the electorate. That
did not happen. The president appeared reluctant to
engage in governance with his political allies and even
uttered some rather unkind words about them.
Nigerians were not initially worried about this approach
to governance with civil servants especially as during
the first quarter of the administration, there was a
remarkable improvement in electricity and fuel supply.
My own view was that it is problematic to rule with just
civil servants after all; one of the most important
signifier of the crisis of the Nigerian state was the
collapse of public administration. There was no basis to
assume that the civil service was still the competent
bureaucracy bequeathed at independence. The
president refused to be stampeded from his announced
path of properly studying the situation he inherited
before making political appointments and it took over
four months before the first list of ministers emerged.
The disadvantages of the approach chosen by President
Buhari
Some people were of the view that by allowed the
permanent secretaries he found in office to remain in
power for so long, they might have had the opportunity
to wipe out evidence of their previous misdeeds. Some
of that might have indeed happened. Today after ten
months in power, we are inundated on a daily basis by
numerous revelations about mega corruption and what
is clear is that corruption under the Jonathan
administration was carried out with such recklessness
and a naïve assumption that they could not possibly
lose elections that hiding the misdeeds was simply
impossible. It might have therefore have been good
tactic to fully study the situation before engaging in
governance.

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state was at
Chatham House March 9 to give a speech but he was
greatly embarrassed by pro-Biafrans.
Okorocha’s free education programme from primary to
University level and his concerted effort at Human
Capital Development Initiatives in the state had
occasioned the interest of the London based Chatham
House to invite him to talk on the referenced topic.

Wande Coal, Dbanj set to collaborate

– Wande Coal speaks on Wanted album and why it took
so long to make
– He described his relationship with producer Maleek
Berry and why they have bonded so much lately
– Whilst in the UK as a headlining artiste recently, he
disclosed plans to work with Dbanj on a new song soon
Nigerian pop star Wande was the headlining artiste
recently at a music concert in the UK and he spoke to
Adesope Olajide of Factory 78 on his preparedness for
the gig as well as plans for 2016.

He said: “I feel great. I can’t wait to express to my fans
how much I’ve missed them.
“This is my second album and I’m out here to perform all
my songs from 2006 to 2016 so watch out. It’s gonna be
like 42 songs so it’s gonna be a big show, trust me. I’m
putting everything into it.”
On how he could fit into the current music trends having
taken a break for many years owing to label scuffles
and other things, he said he owes it all to supports from
Maleek Berry given that a whole lot had changed before
he got back in terms of production and music tastes in
Nigeria.
He also talked about switching styles from the ballads
and love songs to more pop and club-ready songs.
The Ashimapeyin singer also stated that he deliberately
‘went off the radar’ prior to when the album was
released because he wanted to focus more on the
music.
“I wanted to focus on the music basically, the music is my
own thing.

“So I didn’t want put anything out without getting
everything finalized, that’s why you didn’t hear anything
from Wande. I had to take time with the production. I like
sounds so I was always criticizing myself,” he said.
The former MoHits records star said his choice of
Maleek Berry for production was totally as a result of
the latter’s creative magic in songwriting and
production. He also touched on their understanding and
chemistry, stating that they both get to criticize each
other a lot which make things work between them when
it comes to creating new materials.
He also expressed plans to cut across Africa with his
new album and music style as well as plans to
collaborate with erstwhile label boss Dbanj.
Recall that Wande Coal and Dbanj were both signed to
MoHits Records before the label heads Don Jazzy and
Dbanj split the business owing to irreconcilable
differences.

CBN under fire over secret recruitment

Civil society leaders have reacted to the secret
recruitment of family members of top government
officials into the CBN
– They have called for the immediate withdrawal of the
employment
– The CBN said the recruitment was carried out in line
with the Federal Character principle
CBN governor, Godwin Emiefiele
Reactions have continued to trail the secret recruitment
of family members of top government officials to the
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Some civil society leaders and lawyers have called for
the withdrawal of employment offers to children of
former past and serving government officials, ministers,
a nephew of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking with Premium Times on Thursday, March 24,
Achike Chude, the deputy chairman of the Joint Action
Front stated that the action shows a class division in the
country.
“What this thing has told us is that all animals are equal
but some are more equal than others. And this is what we
see in virtually every aspect of our national life.
This tells us once more that there are two Nigerias: a
Nigeria for the rich, the powerful, and the influential, and a
Nigeria for those who do not have privileges, who do not
have what it takes,” he said.
Debo Adeniran, the executive director of Coalition
Against Corrupt Leaders, noted that government should
provide equal opportunity for all Nigerian.

“It is a manifestation of the old order whereby people of
privileged class are given undue advantage over others.”
“The Buhari administration must be seen to live up to its
mantra of change and equal opportunity must be given to
everybody.”
Monday Ubani, former chairman of the Nigerian Bar
Association, Ikeja chapter, faulted the process of
recruitment adding that those who were recruited
without advertisements ought to be shown the door.
“The law says there must be a proper advertisement of
vacancies for such positions and every Nigerian should be
in a position to compete for such a very sensitive position.
And it should reflect federal character,” said Ubani.
”Why will you go and begin to head-hunt only big men’s
children into the banking sector? That is discriminatory,
that is contrary to the provisions of the Constitution. That is
nepotism of the highest order,” he added.
In a reaction, Isaac Okoroafor, CBN’s acting director of
corporate communications defended the position of the
bank the apex bank saying it got a waiver from the
Federal Character Commission, allowing them to recruit
with advertising.
“In the last two years, we have had cause to recruit
specialists, and what the law says is that if we are going
for that kind of recruitment we should apply for waiver, so
that we can do targeted recruitment,” Okoroafor said.
Olanrewaju Suraju, chairman of Sivil Society Network
Against Corruption, called on the CBN to make public
the provisions of the law that allowed the Federal
Character Commission to grant it employment waiver.
“It is the beginning of accountability in the process, though
the response from the CBN is still very ludicrous in terms of
saying that they are catchment areas under federal
character and that they deliberately refused to advertise.

Nigeria in 2030
“It is a challenge to the current government to ensure that
they probe the recruitment process and if it is found to have
violated any of the extant laws, then they need to actually
sack all those that are beneficiaries of the recruitment.
“Thereafter they should conduct a highly publicised
recruitment process that gives access to every other person
that is qualified.”
Meanwhile, the accountability group, the Socio-
Economic Rights and Accountability Project, has
threatened to sue Godwin Emefiele, the governor of the
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), over the recent
employment of children of APC chieftains by the apex
bank.

No armed robber has ever held the entire country on ransom as Anini. In fact, his reign was so bloody

Nigeria has recorded two types of armed robbers: Lawrence Nomanyagbon Anini and others. No armed robber has ever held the entire country on ransom as Anini. In fact, his reign was so bloody that he was even discussed at the State Security Council meeting.

He held the old Bendel State captive in the 1980s. Bendel is now known as Edo and Delta State. His main area of operation was Benin City to be precise.

His early life

Anini was born in a village about 20 miles from Benin City in present-day Edo State. He was  dreadfully called ‘The Law’ or ‘Ovbigbo’. An only son of his Evbueisi-born mother, he had two sisters. His father died when he was still a young boy. Anini was brought to Benin where he was admitted at the Oza Primary School but from a young age, he started manifesting the signs of truancy. He struggled to finish his primary school then entered the Igiedumu Secondary School. He did not spend more than three years when he dropped out of school, preferring to be an apprentice at a local mechanic workshop. That was around 1976.

He started work as a lorry driver (some say taxi driver) after his master fired him and slowly transformed into a leader of the local motor parks, controlling and commanding touts.

Following the sudden overthrow of the politicians in the early 1980s and banning of politics in 1984 by the Buhari regime the highly-skilled driver (now of of criminal gangs and godfathers) discovered that armed robbery was far more lucrative and decided to form his own deadly gang which included, Monday Osunbor, Friday Ofege, Henry Ekponwan, Eweka and Alhaji zed zed or Zegezege who was never captured. They started out as car hijackers, bus robbers and bank thieves. He sealed a pact with corrupt police officers and ruled with reckless abandon. The complicity of the police is believed to have triggered Anini’s reign of terror in 1986.Highway robberies, car jackings, bank raids, Anini was a specialist in all aspects of pilfering with the gun.  Gradually, he extended his criminal acts to other towns and cities far north and east of Benin.

In early 1986, two members of his gang were tried and prosecuted against an earlier under-the-table ‘agreement’ with the police to destroy evidence against the gang members.

The incident, and Anini’s view of police betrayal, is believed to have spurred retaliatory actions by Anini. In August, 1986, a fatal bank robbery linked to Anini was reported in which a police officer and others were killed. That same month, two officers on duty were shot at a barricade while trying to stop Anini’s car. During a span of three months, he was known to have killed nine police officers.

In an operation in August of 1986, the Anini team struck at First Bank, Sabongida-Ora, where they carted away N2, 000. But although the amount stolen was seen as chicken feed, they left the scene with a trail of blood. Many persons were killed.

On September 6, same year, the Anini gang snatched a Peugeot 504 car from Albert Otoe, the driver of an Assistant Inspector General of Police, Christopher Omeben. In snatching the car, they killed the driver and went to hide his corpse somewhere.

Three months later, the skeleton of the driver was spotted 16 kilometers away from Benin, along the Benin-Agbor highway. A day after this attack, Anini, operating in a Passat car believed to have been stolen, also effected the snatching of another Peugeot 504 car near the former FEDECO office, in Benin.

Two days after, the Anini men killed two policemen in Orhiowon Local Government Area of the state. Still in that month, three different robbery attacks, all pointing to Anini’s involvement, took place.

A day after the operation, Anini, visited a village near Benin and threw wads of naira notes on the ground for free pick by market men and women.

Between August and December 1986, he led a four-month reign of terror. He also reportedly wrote numerous letters to media houses using political tones of Robin Hood-like words, to describe his criminal acts.

conspiracy to commit fraud
– Trial judge, Justice Ibrahim Buba, grants bail to all
accused persons

charges leveled against him, the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday, March
22 arraigned former militant leader, Government
Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo) in absentia over alleged
N35 billion fraud.
Tompolo has refused to appear in court to answer
charges leveled against him by the Economic and
Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
According to Vanguard, Tompolo was arraigned

failure to appear before him to answer 40 counts on an
alleged N45.9bn fraud but all efforts by the nation’s

Bloodshed: God is angry with Buhari - Gov Fayose

Governor Fayose says recent bloodshed in the
country is as a result of God’s anger towards President
Buhari
– Adds that the president is presently clueless and
cannot rule the country
– Insists that his predictions earlier this year have
come to pass
President Muhammadu Buhari seems to be praying to
God here.
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has yet again,
lashed out at President Muhammadu Buhari over the
way he has handled Nigeria since he came into power.
Fayose, who had vowed never to stop attacking the
president, told journalists on Tuesday, March 22, that
God is angry with him (Buhari), hence the unending
bloodshed in the country.
Rivers rerun: Governor Fayose blasts APC-led
government
The outspoken governor was speaking against the
backdrop of recent violent reports that characterized the
rerun elections in Rivers, where a youth corps member
was among those confirmed dead during the series of
attacks.
According to Vanguard, Fayose said that President
Buhari oversaw elections that were remarkably
bloody adding that power belonged to God and should
not be abused by any individual no matter how highly
placed they are.
“I am telling you the truth. Power doesn’t come from
anywhere. God rules in the affairs of men. Oppressing,
bringing and cutting people down, taking their blood, God is
angry. The way this government is taking people down, God
is angry. God isn’t happy. Go to Rivers, they kill people.
“Go to Akwa Ibom, they kill people. Go to Bayelsa, they kill
people, incarcerate innocent people. God is angry with
Buhari. You can’t continue to take the blood of the
innocent. Look at my predictions for the year 2016 for
Nigeria, everything has come to pass.

“This is a different ball game. He that will take me, he that
will go against me must first of all defeat God. If these
were the kind of violence that greeted Buhari’s election
would he ever be president?” Fayose queried.
Governor Fayose also gave his opinion on the possible
outcome of the just-concluded retreat of the National
Economic Council (NEC) in Abuja, stating
vehemently that the present economic situation in the
country indicates that President Buhari lacks technical
competence to solve the country’s challenges.
The governor had also stated on Monday, March 21,
that he has been waiting for President Buhari to declare
state of emergency in Ekiti state bu t warned that
imposing state of emergency on Rivers and Ekiti state
will not work in both states.
He insisted that power has gone back to the people but
cautioned leaders to beware of the actions they take
while in office as such decision may hunt them in the
future.
When asked his thoughts on the possible declaration of
state of emergency in Rivers, he said: “ They have been
insinuating that too in Ekiti. We have been waiting for
them. Power has gone beyond the leaders; power has gone
back to the people.”

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS Opinion: 6 videos that prove Don Jazzy lost the script

Yesterday
Editor’s note: NAIJ.com contributor Udochukwu Ikwuagwu
analyses the new face of Mavin Records and the
transformation of ace producer Don Jazzy from a ‘Don
Corleone-esque character’ to a circus ring master.
The Mavins in still for their Jantamata video
Don Jazzy shed his previously associated Vito
Corleone-esque persona for the friendlier, less stoic,
very accessible character he now displays following the
unfortunate collapse of Mo’Hits Records. But one thing
many will observe happens to be the generously
amusing persona that tags along with the Don like his
now-discarded cane. On social media, that humorous
side comes to bear in hilarious one-liners, memes, quips
and skits, and it’s no surprise that he’s one of the most
followed Nigerian celebrities. But a more interesting fact
is the way that persona has been transferred to Mavin
Records artistes; Tiwa Savage, Dr. SID, D’Prince, Korede
Bello, Reekado Banks, and Di’ja—they all have taken on
a humorous side and could rival some A-list acts in a
stand-up comedy battle.
Here are the six videos where Don Jazzy turned his
singers to competent comedians:
1. Mungo Park
Comedians sometimes delve into self-deprecating skits
touching on their own failings, weaknesses,
inadequacies, depressing childhood or dysfunctional
family structure, while sending ribs-a-cracking. Julius
‘D’Genius’ Agwu called kids to mock his marital status
in the early 2000s with the question: When will you
marry? Don Jazzy becomes the butt of the joke as
Korede Bello takes a dig at his label boss. Interestingly,
Korede Bello also lampoons his nosey self- oga poke
noser, shey you wan’ discover Mungo Park?
2. Oga Titus
Don Jazzy débuted his Judge Jazzy character via
instagram skits and memes that flooded his twitter
timeline; the hilarious memes were him pushing his
comic brand, doubling on the successes of his newly-
found persona. On Oga Titus, Judge Jazzy, a character
in D’Prince’s (who tells the joke) humorous video,
sentences a dubious couple to 100 years imprisonment;
the male suspect- Imeh Bishop- with N263.95 manages
to live large with his shoplifting girlfriend before the long
arms of Judge Jazzy catch up with them. One isn’t sure
if Oga Titus was named after the movie featuring Mr.
Ibu, as the cover art shows and the subsequent 2015
movie, but one could care less while laughing out loud.

3. Kabiyesi
Judge Jazzy returns as character in Kabiyesi to
adjudicate over Dr. Sid and Frank Donga’s case. When
two hungry perhaps unemployed (given Donga’s
lucklessness in finding a job) men etch a plan to find
sustenance, they fail at the first plot. But when they
return in stolen royal garbs, storming one owambe after
another sun shines on their path. Not long before the
testosterone-driven Dr. Sid flirts with a bride and they
are bundled before Judge Jazzy.
4. Sugar Baby
What do you do when your first comic outing fails to
amuse and the joke’s on you? You re-strategize, read
the handbook your label boss penned in his hey days as
a young comedian. That’s what Reekado Banks did
when his glasses wearing-Mr. Latin character on Corner
was short-lived. He found a rather amusing character in
the hopeless romantic frame on Sugar Baby. Yes, he
got the girl in Corner and after breaking up with her, she
decides to sabotage his plan of finding new love even
involving the ever amorous Adekunle Gold. And while at
it; infuse lyrics with homour-tinged children song with
Don Jazzy doing ad libs.
5. Take Kiss
For Hadiza Salma Blell’s transformation from an urban-
winning songstress who grew up on Marvin Gaye,
Tracy Chapman, Dianna Ross, MJB, to one possessing
shtick to rival the best of comediennes in the land, she
had to test the bubblegum pop waters. That Di’Ja had to
resort to music for the postpubescents with Don
Jazzy’s call to “take kiss” is far from what brings the
amusement, but Di’Ja’s character and others involved
present material for laughter. In the colourful video, her
character has a WTF face not impressed by the kiss of
one, and totally rejects another; could halitosis, absence
of skill or unattractiveness (on the kisser’s part) be
responsible? Another gets his cheek slapped either for
the same concerns or being forward. NB: Yhem yhem
isn’t for everybody!

You’ll never believe that’s Tiwa Savage
6. Eminado
Asinamali-inspired video introduces us to the humorous
life of Tiwa Savage ably assisted by the don himself.
Don Jazzy takes up Super Ted, Shrek, Barney
costumes, and a pipe-smoking aristocrat persona who
attempts to woo a blushing Tiwa Savage with his
“money in the bank”; then runs behind her making faces
while she playfully entertains on the drums, violin and
guitar. Four Tiwa Savages are playful in the studio;
three Tiwa Savages appear on stage reminiscent of
Outcast’s Hey Ya.

Churches warn against Kaduna religious bill

– Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has accused
Governor El-Rufai of creating hostilities between
Christians and Muslims with the Kaduna state Religious
Bill
– PFN calls on meaning Nigerians and relevant
stakeholders to prevail on the government of Kaduna
state to withdraw the bill
– Warn that the bill has latent explosive heat that can
set Kaduna state on fire
Representatives from over one thousand churches
within Kaduna metropolis and environs have vowed to
do everything legal to ensure that the rights of
Christians were not curtailed in Kaduna state.
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, (PFN) has called
on Governor El-Rufai to withdraw the religious bill
before the Kaduna state House of Assembly.
The resolve by the churches is coming on the heels of
the Kaduna state Religious Bill now before the
consideration of Kaduna state House of Assembly.

preaching bill
The bill is geared towards regulating Christianity and
Islam as it seeks to create an inter-faith Ministerial
Committee to be appointed by the governor and exercise
control over Jama’atu Nasril Islam, JNI, and the
Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.
But the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, (PFN) has
kicked against bill, describing it as anti-Christian.
According to Vanguard, speaking on the bill which he
described as obnoxious, the chairman of the PFN,
Kaduna state chapter, Reverend Femi Ehinmidu said it
was improper for the government to embark on
restricting and regulating religious activities while other
prevailing issues in are left unattended to.
“It is unimaginable to see our erudite Governor exhuming a
military era edit which came into being when the
constitution was suspended, smacks of mischief,” he said.
“Now with this bill that he has sent to the House, he is
opening up new vistas of hostilities between Christians and
Muslims when bias implementation is carried out if the bill
is passed into law.
“Furthermore, the bill is obnoxious and directly offends our
faith. The bible commands us in Mark 16 vs15 to ‘go ye
into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature’
and 1 Thesselonians 5 vs 29 also said ‘pray without
ceasing’ this is the life wire of the Christian religion.
“Taking away the rights to preach and evangelise is telling
the Christians not to practise their religion as commanded
by the Lord Jesus.
“There are many laws that legislate on trampling on the
rights of other people. Let those laws take full course, the
bill should not take Kaduna State backward. We oppose the
bill in its entirety and we shall do everything legal to ensure
that our rights as Christians are not curtailed.”
Reverend Ehinmidu called on meaning Nigerians and
relevant stakeholders to prevail on the government of
Kaduna state to withdraw what he described as the
vexing bill before Kaduna state House of Assembly.

He warned that: The bill has latent explosive heat that can
set Kaduna State on fire if not tamed with proper
stakeholders engagements or better still withdraw the bill
from being processed in the house of assembly and use
existing laws to address the re-emerging religious
challenges.
“The Nigeria constitution guarantees our freedom of
worship and our rights to propagate our religious beliefs.
The Kaduna State government is not wiser than the whole
lot of eminent Nigerians who gave the nation the
constitution.
In another development, the Kaduna state government
has harshly criticised the organised labour for
threatening to resume strike if the government doesn’t
stop the current verification of workers.
Addressing the workers through his media aide, Samuel
Aruwan, Governor Nasiru El-Rufai said that the

$200B: EFCC arrives UAE Read more

– Chairman of the EFCC Ibrahim Magu arrives UAE to
recover $200billion loot
– EFCC beams searchlight on seven former governors,
six former ministers, a fleeing presidential aide
implicated in the $2.1billion arms deals, ex-military
chiefs under probe, agents/fronts of some of these
public officers and five chieftains of the PDP
At least seven governors are said to be on the Economic
and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) radar over
alleged $200billion loot to the United Arab Emirates.
This comes on the heels of report of a trip to Dubai by
the chairman of the anti-graft agency Ibrahim Magu,
which is in line to recover the $200billion loot.
Mallam Shehu Sani, the chairman of the Senate
committee on Foreign and Domestic Debts had claimed
that as much as $200 billion of stolen funds from
Nigeria may have been hidden in the UAE by past public
officers and their agents/fronts.
He said: “Over $200 billion are stashed away in Dubai
alone. This may be the monies stolen in the last 20 years. I
am not talking about estates and bonds and other
securities bought with Nigeria’s stolen money.”
It was gathered that seven former governors, six former
ministers, a fleeing presidential aide implicated in the
$2.1billion arms deals, ex-military chiefs under probe,
agents / fronts of some of these public officers and five
chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) are
under the EFCC searchlight for stashing away cash or
acquiring properties in the UAE.
Some mansions belonging to some former Politically
Exposed Persons (PEPs) and their cronies or fronts may
also be seized.

At least seven governors are said to be on the Economic
& Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) radar over
alleged $200billion loot to the UAE.
A top source, who spoke in confidence, told The Nation:
“ The federal government team has met with those from the
UAE on intelligence sharing, the list of those on EFCC
radar, the number of highly-placed Nigerians with fat
accounts in UAE and those with choice properties in Marina
(Dubai), Bur Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha.
”Some of the former governors include one from the South-
South, two from Northcentral, two from the Northeast, one
from the Northwest, and one from the Southwest.
“A former-governor had made botched attempts to transfer
about $517million loot to Dominican Republic because UAE
law is now strict.
“More than six ex-ministers and a former presidential aide,
who is on the run over the $2.1billion arms deals, were said
to have acquired choice mansions and malls in UAE. One of
the former ministers, who was alleged to own two houses in
Dubai, was said to have served as a front for a former First
Lady.
“Another ex-minister had bought some malls through a few
cronies in Dubai. The list of such agents is being screened.
“Certainly, the anti-graft agency has tightened the noose on
these former public officers and there is no hiding place for
them.
“The success of the collaboration between the Federal
Government team and the UAE Government will determine
when EFCC will release the concessions on some of these
PEPs. Very soon, we will unveil these ex-political office
holders.”

According to sources, the government delegation
discovered that many highly-placed Nigerians, including
a few ex-governors and money laundering fronts, have
fled from Dubai to Singapore, Casablanca in Morocco,
Dominican Republic and some islands in the UK and in
the Caribbean.
Another source said: “From the trip so far, many big
Nigerians have already ran away from Dubai to escape
being arrested by the UAE authorities.”
“Some of the ex-governors have also avoided visiting UAE
until the coast is clear. They do not want to experience the
same fate like ex-Governor James Ibori.
“The frequency at which highly-placed Nigerians fly to
Dubai for parties has considerably reduced because they
are under watch by the UAE authorities.
A source in the government last night said: “Yes, the
AGF and the EFCC chairman with some top officials of the
anti-graft agency are in Dubai for a follow-up technical
session on the Mutual Legal Assistance between Nigeria
and the UAE.
“I can confirm the official trip and it is meant to recover
looted funds.”
Meanwhile, the anti-money laundering policy of UAE
Central Bank reads in part: “Any person who commits, or
attempts to commit, a Money Laundering offence shall be
punished by imprisonment of up to 10 years and or a fine of
between AED 100,000 and AED 500,000.
”In cases of multiple perpetrators, the Court, subject to its
discretion, may exempt a perpetrator from the
imprisonment penalty if he takes the initiative and reports
the crime to the competent authorities prior to the
knowledge of such authorities and if his actions lead to the
arrest of the other perpetrators or seizure of the laundered
money.
”Any establishment that commits an offence of money
laundering, financing of terrorism or financing of any
unlawful organisations, shall be punished by a fine of AED
300,000 and AED 1,000,000.
”Failure to report a suspicious transaction shall be
punishable by imprisonment and /or a fine of between AED
50,000 and AED 300,000.
”Tipping off a person being investigated regarding a
suspicious transaction shall be punishable by imprisonment
of up to one year and/ or a fine of between AED10,000 and
AED 100,000.
”Violation of the requirements of Airport Declarations shall
be punishable by imprisonment and or a fine.”
In January, President Muhammadu Buhari signed six
agreements with the UAE to enhance bilateral relations
between them. They are; judicial agreement on
extradition, transfer of sentenced persons, mutual legal
assistance on criminal matters, and mutual legal
assistance on criminal and commercial matters, which
includes the recovery and repatriation of stolen wealth
with the UAE.

8 state governors who have no business building Airports

– Some state governors promised their people so many
good things of life during the electioneering campaign
period
– The most important and number one priority in the
economy of any society is human development
– Hunger has to be taken care of, before the thought of
International Airports
– Despite Nigerians groaning under severe economic
hardship presently, some state governors seem not to
care whose ox is gored any longer
It is shocking, to hear government embarking on white
elephant projects, whereas the immediate needs of the
citizens are not sorted out. In simple economics, the
three basic needs of life are: food, shelter and clothing.
All the managers of Nigeria, whom are the elected
political officer holders, should for once feel the
heartbeat of those they lead. The three aforementioned
basic needs of life are like luxury in Nigeria, for anyone
who has them. It is sad enough to know that, Nigeria is
among the leading nations of the world, where the
citizens provide themselves with almost every
infrastructure the government should provide, or
subsidise. Be it, power supply, roads, potable water,
hospital, etc, the citizens are responsible for all these.
It’s really a shame!

In the Punch of Wednesday, February 10, the editorial
succinctly captioned the governors’ lust for airports as,
“mad rush for state airports”. It was stated in there that:
“Many wrong choices and misplaced priorities embraced by
state governors, when the economy was booming are
bouncing back to haunt them. One of these is the
indiscriminate building of airports across the country, which
ignored the basic needs of life.
“Of the 25 airports managed by the Federal Airports
Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), experts say only the two in
Lagos and Abuja are viable.
“The truth remains that many governors have robbed their
citizens of the benefits of good governance, because of their
predilection for frivolous projects, when vice president, Yemi
Osinbajo’s figure of over 100 million Nigerians living below
the poverty line, how many people can afford the cost of
flights in the country?”
1. Ayodele Fayose (Governor, Ekiti state)
Fayose is a second term governor. He had allegation
leveled against him of embezzling the state’s money
during his first term, with a poultry project, which never
came into existence.
Some indigenes of the state are of the opinion that the
governor has nothing to offer the state, except eating
food on the streets with the locals, whose lives have not
fared any better, despite the governor calling himself, a
man of the people.
According to Nosa Igiebor in his piece titled ‘ Our little
Emperor’ in Tell magazine edition of Monday, October
26, 2015, he specifically took a swipe at Governor
Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, saying: “He (Governor
Fayose), wants to adorn his capital, Ado Ekiti, with an
airport, whose initial cost is a modest N17 billion. If the
airport ever gets completed, the final bill may double. It
should be noted that the Ekiti state capital is about an
hour’s drive from Akure, which has an airport, which is as
busy as an abandoned graveyard.
“And if the highway between the two cities were to be
dualised, that could cut the journey time by 50%. This one
viable alternative to what is obviously ‘a white elephant
project’, which he could partner Governor Segun Mimiko of
Ondo to develop. And they can toll the road after, to recoup
their investments and create a source of additional
revenues for their states.”
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state
2. Abdulaziz Yari (Governor, Zamfara state)
Zamfara state is close to airport states like Kano and
even Jigawa. The state is one of the poorest states in
Nigeria. The state is battling with childhood diseases
like measles. Yari is the chairman of the Nigeria
Governors Forum (NGF). Many believe the governor
should better focus on bettering the lives of the people
to welfare programmes.
Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state
3. Ibikunle Amosun (Governor, Ogun state)
Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transport , during his
inspection of some projects and visit to Ogun state, to
see the state governor, some weeks back, advised the
governor, to rather use the money he intended using to
build his proposed cargo airport on unfinished projects
and infrastructural development. It is still in the same
Ogun state that residents of Obafemi-Owode local
government area, cried out to the governor and the
federal government that they have been living in
darkness for several years due to perennial power
outage.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state
4. Willie Obiano (Governor, Anambra state)
The former bank director has been trying to deliver the
dividends of democracy to Anambrarians. He is
reportedly focusing on the agriculture sector, by giving
incentives to farmers, in order to boost food production
in the state. He is also waging war against ghost
workers.

5. Rauf Aregbesola (Governor, Osun state)
Osun state lacks financial muscle compared to a state
like Ogun, which is said is not viable yet for an airport.
There have been series of strikes and agitations by
different labour unions in the state, regarding payment
of workers’ salaries, bonuses, gratuities and other
emoluments.
The sad experience of last year is still crystal clear in
front of a good number Nigerians, whereby some NGOs
and well-meaning Nigerians, had to come to the aid of
some starving Osun state government workers, who
were owed backlogs of salaries. The hungry workers
were assisted with food items and other deliveries. It
was one of the worst experiences in the history of
Nigeria.
Some members of the major opposition political party,
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun have
lampooned Governor Aregbesola. The Punch of
Monday, January 18, had the caption, “ Aregbesola
inflated airport contract by 11.5bn, says PDP”.
Mr Diran Odeyemi, the director of media and strategy of
the PDP in Osun, said the governor inflated the contract
sum of the Moshood Abiola International Airport, Ido,
Osun, from N4.5 billion to N15.5 billion. Mr Odeyemi
also added that, Aregbesola wanted to use the airport to
embezzle the bailout loan the state got from the Central
Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun state
6. Okezie Ikpeazu (Governor, Abia state)
The governor was said to have performed below par,
while he served in the administration of his predecessor.
Aba, in Abia state, the commercial hub of the south-east,
is in dire need of infrastructure upgrade. The city has so
many dilapidated roads and refuse dumps taking over
almost every corner of the state.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state
7. Ifeanyi Okowa (Governor, Delta state)
He is a first term governor. The leader of Delta state is
yet to pull any string in terms of major developmental
projects in his state. It was during his predecessor’s
second term tenure that the idea of the airport project
was first mooted. Embarking on this project is not the
best for the welfare of the people of the state.
Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state
8. Umar Tanko Al-Makura (Governor, Nasarawa state)
Nasarawa is very close to the Federal Capital Territory,
Abuja, which has an international airport. Analysts
think Al-Makura should focus on human development,
as his second term will end in three years’ time. He
should think of how he will provide succour for the
unemployed graduates and youths, through well-
planned poverty alleviation programmes and schemes.

Lagos prostitutes lament low patronage from customers

– Survey reveals how much prostitutes charge in Lagos
– Dwindling economic fortunes also affecting
patronage
– Desperation of sex workers make them almost beg
for customers
– Some into prostitution majorly for survival
A new survey has revealed how commercial sex
workers in Lagos state are now desperate for
customers and have reduced their charges.
The prostitutes who have also been affected by the
fluctuations of the economy, have lamented a sharp
drop in patronage from their erstwhile customers with
some of them even showing sheer desperation to get
men sleep with them for money.
In a survey carried out by New Telegraph in Lagos,
Nigeria’s commercial capital, it was gathered that the
sex workers were in a pretty bad shape as one of them
identified as Jessica, said: “There is no money in the
country. Guys are complaining, but at all at all na him be
witch. Wetin will man pickin do? We have to collect the pay
like that. I have been here since and the guys wey dey
come my way just dey price anyhow. You no see as you
dey price too.
“And if I tell you to do quick rest for N3, 000, you will say
no. They want it all through the night.”
File photo of prostitutes
At ‘Heavens’, a popular night club on 1st Avenue, Festac
Town, three different ladies were reported to have
poached the correspondent who went after them to
sample anyone who might be good enough for the
night, in a bid to outwit the other person to the
‘contract’.
Titi, who apparently appeared first, was literally begging
to be taken home by the correspondent, who priced her
far below the normal prices of between N7,000 and
N10, 000 charged in that area.
Down from her initial N15, 000/night billing, Titi
eventually accepted to be ‘taken down’ for N5,000, and
was quick to say “okay let’s go to your house, I will do
you well, you will enjoy me” when the others on the ‘list’
made their presence known but were insisting on
between N8,000 and N10,000/night.
One of the ladies of the night who was identified as
Stella while speaking on the manner of bargaining,
stated: “Oga this one wey you dey price like this, you no go
fit pay for all night. E go better if you go for quick rest.
Quick rest na N2500. Let’s leave the full night. I have a
place, where I lodge on 21 Road, let’s go there and enjoy
ourselves.
“I’m sweet let’s just do quick rest first. Long night is N10,
000 but as you dey price so, you no fit pay for full night. I
will do you well and I will give you my number so that you
can call anytime you need me.”
Jane, another prostitute who seemed to have been
isolated by the journalist carrying out the survey voiced
out badly, stating that she prayed for God to send her
new customers to take her home.
“You know that you don’t want to carry me to your house
and you came here and wasted my time.
“If I had stood at that place, somebody else would have
carried me. After now you will go and pray God to bless
your business but you are here spoiling my own business.
Go, let me wait and see if God will give me another
customer this night,” she lamented.
Some prostitutes standing by the roadside, waiting for
customers.
On the popular Allen Avenue in Ikeja another night
worker billed N5000 for “short time” but later accepted
to go for N2000, albeit refusing the offer to go to Isolo
(as proposed by the correspondent).
She said: “N2000 is the last price for short-time. Isolo is
far, I can’t go to Isolo. Let me stay here and keep hustling.”
While driving along the same route, the journalist met
anther desperate sex worker who identified herself as
Tricia. She exhibited every attribute of desperation as
the low patronage had made most of the prostitutes
become.
With a seeming plea in her eyes, she was reported to
have said “I will do you well” for a N4,000/night and a
N2,000/quickie.
In Surulere, Janet, a mother of one, was quite open in
her comments, saying: “I have a child. In the course of
my business, I got pregnant and I didn’t want to abort the
baby. It wasn’t easy for me then but I needed to keep the
baby. I used to give her Chelsea dry gin every night so that
she can sleep all through the night until I come back.

President Buhari holds emergency meeting over Rivers election

Reports by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have it
that President Muhammadu Buhari may have called an
emergency meeting in Abuja over the bloody legislative
rerun election in Rivers state.
The party had earlier in the day alleged that the
president was already planning to declare a state of
emergency in the state following the violence which has
marred the election so far.
And in a series of tweets by the party’s official Twitter
handle on Sunday evening, President Buhari has
assembled some leaders of the National Assembly as
well as many other lawmakers on the platform of the All
Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting may yet be to declare a state of emergency
in the state following the killings and unending violence
in the south-southern state.

Why Rivers re-run elections were suspended - INEC

– The Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) has explained why the re-run Rivers state
elections were suspended.
– The electoral body said the process was
characterised by disruptions and malpractice
INEC explains why Rivers re-run elections were
suspended
In a statement issued by Olowole Osaze-Uzzi, the
director in charge of voters education and publicity, on
Sunday, March 20, the electoral body stated that the
exercise witnessed a number of disruptions.
Uzzi stated that there were concerns over the level of
threats, violence and intimidation of election officials
and voters.
The statement reads in part: “Pursuant to the Orders of
the Court of Appeal, the Independent National Electoral
Commission(INEC) conducted elections into various seats
in both the National and the Rivers State House of
Assembly yesterday, the 19th of March, 2016.
“Rather unfortunately, some of these elections witnessed
the disruption of the process, including the barricading of
some of the INEC local government offices and registration
area centres (RACs) used for the distribution of electoral
materials which led to the late commencement of the
exercise in some places and consequently, its smooth take
off.

“Of more serious concern was the level of threats, violence
and intimidation of election officials and voters by well
armed thugs and miscreants allegedly acting on behalf of
some politicians, which marred the elections in some
areas.
“There were reports of numerous attacks resulting in
fatalities, kidnappings, ballot snatching, diversion of
officials and materials, amongst others, which necessitated
its suspension in 8 local government areas. Regrettably,
such deviant behaviour has continued today.
“Several permanent and adhoc staff engaged have been
attacked, again resulting in fatalities, while some have been
forcibly abducted and taken to presently unknown
destinations. Under such difficult circumstance, the
returning officers were only able to collate and declare
results in 1 federal and 9 state constituencies where the
disruption and malpractices were not so widespread.

“Having reviewed the situation, the commission is
compelled to suspend all further action concerning the
exercise in all the other constituencies in the state pending
the receipt of a comprehensive report from its field officials
and monitors.
“For the avoidance of doubt, it should be noted that the
suspension does not affect the constituencies where the
exercise has been completed and the results declared by the
returning officers.”
Meanwhile, about 100 police officers drafted from
Akure, the Ondo state capital for the election rerun in
Rivers state were involved in an auto accident on
Friday, March 18.
