Blast Champ is a new kid on the block but strong
enough to compete with others in the Afro pop genre of
the Nigerian music industry.
Having graduated from the University of Benin in 2014
with a degree in Economics Blast Champ abandoned his
degree and focused more in music after his graduation.
Interestingly, like Psquare he also has his twin brother
with him in his music career.

How will you classify your brand of music?
I sing Afro pop.
Your songs are in between that of Phyno and Flavour?
Yes, my single Boo Boo Me, people said sounded like
Flavour because it is Afro pop with a touch of highlife but
with my new single Nwayor some said I sounded like
Phyno but to me I can blend every genre of hip hop
together. That is why I am called the Blast Champ.
Like Phyno, you rap in Igbo?
Yes, because I am a Deltan Igbo but I can also rap in
English. I only experimented with it in Nwayor, my latest
single.
How did Blast Champ want to conquer the music
industry?
I have a good music producer in my brother. For you
information I am a twin and my twin brother is my
producer. He read accounting from same school as I went
and like me he is into music.
Are we not having another Psquare here?
Maybe, maybe not, I sing, my brother produces while my
sister owns the label Meshtro Entertainment under which
my songs are being released.

And you are telling me this is not another Psquare in
the Nigerian music industry?
Yes, they inspired us. Only that I am not singing with my
twin brother, he is only producing my songs.
What lessons have you learnt from the crisis rocking
Psquare group?
If for nothing at all, the group has written the name of
Nigeria music industry in gold across the globe. For the
fight going on between them it is a phase in their life and
career. They will overcome it. You cannot compare their
fight with that of outsiders, the same blood flows in them
so that will make it easier to resolve whatever issue they
have between them. They will get over it.
What do you mean by BooBoo me?
It’s a song about my personal experience. Before now
ladies do not want to come around me but now with
stardom they flock around me calling boo boo.
Are you in any relationship now?
No, my last girlfriend left me.

music in Nigeria
Why did she leave you?
We never fought; it was on a mutual agreement. She
wanted marriage and I am not ready for marriage so I gave
her my blessing and now she is married.
